The 2012 classes will be held in two sessions. The spring session will meet on Tuesdays evenings, from March 27 to June 5. Class will break for the summer and then resume for the fall session August 28 to December 4. The classes will be held at the North Jersey Federal Credit Union, 711 Union Blvd., Totowa (just a 1/4 mile south of Rt. 46, park in the rear lot and enter back door). Time 6:30-8:30 p.m.
All cadets must officiate a minimum of 15 sub-varsity games/scrimmages in the fall (youth games NOT included). In order to meet this requirement the cadet will need to be available for some Monday and Friday afternoon games by 3:30 pm. The cadet will also be
required to officiate a minimum of two pre-season scrimmages with the chairman, as well as two sub-varsity games for evaluation, all counting towards the total games needed. The assignments from the chairman will be a PRIORITY. Cadet will need to demonstrate acceptable field proficiency in order to become certified. CADETS ARE LIMITED TO SUB-VARSITY GAMES ONLY.
Assignment to varsity games to hold the first down markers (a minimum of 15 games) will be made by the chairman; the cadet will meet with the assigned crew before and after each game for discussion. You will also be assigned to hold the chains for the playoffs of the state tournament in mid-November.
Cadets will be evaluated based on the following: class attendance (no more than 4 absences allowed), weekly quizzes, scrimmages, sub-varsity games/ratings, chain crew performance, and attitude in general. Failure to successfully complete any of the above will result in the cadet losing eligibility to complete the course and sit for the annual state exam in December (tentative date Saturday, December 8th). There is no makeup date for this exam. A passing grade of 70 must be attained.
It shall be understood that participation in the training program implies agreement that all candidates will act as independent contractors when and where they officiate
interscholastic or other football contests. Acceptance into the program will be at the discretion of the committee.
The cost of the course is $155, payable by check or money order. Applications must be post marked no later than March 24, 2012. A copy of your birth certificate or driver's license must accompany the application.
Please call Frank Valenzano if you have any questions regarding the cadet program or its requirements. Frank can be reached at 973 227-0490.
